Was John Brown a murderer or a martyr?

I think that John Brown was a martyr. I think he was a martyr because he died for what he believed in. The only people fighting besides him was his sons. He died for his beliefs and that's why he is a martyr. He risked his life to make sure his beliefs will happen. He was trying to start a slave rebellion, however did not have enough reinforcements. He never gave up and kept trying to help his cause. He eventually got caught and was sent to jail. He was sent to the death sentence and was going to be executed. He died from supporting his beliefs.
